First off, waxing your car is pointless if you do not do the necessary steps to prepare your car for wax or a polymer sealant. A clean, contaminant-free surface is key to get the most shine from a good wax job.
Here are the recommended steps to make your car shine.
1. Wash your car with a good quality soap like Surf City Garage's Pacific Blue Wash & Wax. Choosing the right wash mitt or sponge is critical to not scratching the paint. We recommend using a microfiber wash sponge like Surf City Garage's Nano-Detail Microfiber Washing Sponge. This sponge
cleans all surfaces completely scratch-free using the best quality microfiber on the market.
2. Now that the car is washed, its time to rid the surface from embedded contaminates that can make your paint feel like sandpaper. To do this, you can use a clay bar like Evercoat's Clay Magic to remove over-spray, rail head dust, industrial fallout, bugs, tar, etc. Clay bars are used with a lubricant like Evercoat's Lubri-Shine to aid in the gliding effect between the surface and the clay bar. The clay bar should be kneaded and shaped into a flat patty. Mist the Lubri-Shine on one panel at a time and work the clay in a back & forth motion over the paint's surface. Periodically re-knead & check the clay bar for any larger contaminants that may scratch the paint and remove them with a pair of tweezers.
3. Once the clay bar process is complete, rewash your car as referenced in step one. You can dry the car off using a microfiber drying towel like Surf City Garage's Nano-Detail Microfiber Drying Towel or a synthetic chamois by Absorber . A helpful tool in aiding the drying process is a California Water Blade. The water blade uses a silicone “T-Bar” blade design to whisk away the majority of the water on the car. All that is left to do, is finish drying the edges and hard to reach places with the fore-mentioned drying towels.
