Beyond the initial prep work, the auto primer that you select is the foundation for a great paint job. The best automotive rust primer will provide really good adhesion as well as fill, build and corrosion resistance (rust under the paint) all in an easy to use aerosol can that you can shake and spray on your car without the expensive spray guns.

2k epoxy automotive primer should be applied first for protection at the base level under the car's paint. It will also help with the actual paint adhering to the car body. The next step is to use a sandable 2k urethane primer that will give you the ability to smooth out any minor imperfections in the paint surface. Taking these extra steps will ensure that your final paint job will be the best it can be.

Auto spray-can primer is ideal for auto body spot repairs. You might not need to do the whole car body or you just might not have the space so you need to do it one piece at a time. Good 2k spray primer must be used all at once due to the potlife after activation. So, when you open a can, you'll need to use the primer all at once.

1k spray-can primers can still be found at Shinegear. These auto spray primers are usually lacquer and are ok for small last minute touchups to the car body.
